Zara Larsson has taken the clean girl aesthetic off the market, and has rebranded this year with her lively presence. She channels her energy into colorful and bright makeup looks created by her makeup artist Sophia Sinot. Her radiant makeup looks have been a staple of her fashion style during the Midnight Sun tour. She’s always dressed head to toe in bright, vibrant colors to truly personify her hit album, Midnight Sun. The clean girl aesthetic of minimalism and colorless fashion was wiped from social media’s algorithm when her stylist completely changed her look.
A Swedish singer and songwriter, Zara Larsson originally became famous for her hit song “Lush Life” in 2015. She followed quickly with “Never Forget You,” featuring MNEK, which became her first major success in the United States. Back in 2014, she released her very first album, “1.” Although it wasn’t mainstream in the US, her album was highly successful in Scandinavia, topping the charts in Sweden and producing multiple Top 10 hits. The album featured Swedish hits such as “Carry You Home,” “Rooftop,” and “She’s Not Me.”
Larsson had originally begun opening for Tate McRae on her Miss Possessive tour, playing in major arenas across North America. She joined the tour to help build her live audience in America. Fans began comparing the two pop singers together, even attempting to pit them against one another. Instead of clapping back, Larsson posted a photo on Instagram of the two together and wrote, “It’s been strange seeing some people putting us against each other when we’re just two pop girls who love and support each other backstage!”
Many of Larsson’s songs were top hits that were praised globally, and left people wanting more. Suddenly, after she released “Symphony” featuring Clean Bandit, Larsson’s internet and musical presence depleted. She didn’t release albums, and whenever she did release an album, they wouldn’t perform as well. She’d fallen off in 2021, after she had released her third album “Poster Girl.” People wondered where she’d gone after such a long time, even making TikTok videos displaying their concern for Larsson for not creating music for so long.
In 2024, people began to create more TikToks, reminiscing about Larsson’s old music. Instead, their interest in her past brought her back to life. Among the videos posted was one for her hit song “Symphony,” which featured an image of a dolphin swimming in the ocean with rainbows in the background.
Larsson took this as an opportunity to regain popularity, making her new album Midnight Sun. Her album’s theme was centered around the nostalgic vibes that imitate a summer and beach theme, a comforting and appealing aesthetic for many.
Her deluxe album, “Midnight Sun: Girls Trip,” was released on May 1st. The album showed all of her songs with multiple collaborations with other well-known artists, mainly women such as Madison Beer, Shakira, and PinkPantheress. She’s recently collaborated with PinkPantheress for another song, titled “Stateside.” This song hit number one on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. charts in America and helped Larsson regain the spotlight.
Larsson has suffered many musical failures throughout her career, but has always gotten back up and remained consistent with both herself and her fans. She is back in the pop market and ready to stay for the long run.
