From popping into each other’s music videos, to seemingly being in love, to making diss songs about one another, the popular couple, Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI, have seemingly broken up after more than a year of being together. Originally, LAROI had denied the allegations of bad blood between him and Tate with a post on X, stating that they had remained on good terms after he had gotten accused of shading his ex online.
Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI are both popular artists who were previously dating for about a year. They were first spotted together in January of 2024, and caught in many more moments, including walking together while holding hands, further fueling dating rumors. The Kid LAROI confirmed this on one of his First Time tour stops, calling Tate his girlfriend.
On February 21st, Tate McRae released her third studio album, So Close To What, in which The Kid LAROI was featured on the ninth track in the album titled, “I Know Love.” This was revealed at a special listening party, in partnership with Spotify. While they were doing a Q&A, Tate joked that LAROI and she had never had a serious collaboration with each other before the album. “(We) never really (had) taken each other seriously in terms of music,” Tate said.
Now, people all over the world are speculating that Tate McRae had never actually taken The Kid LAROI seriously, and not only in terms of music. The “STAY” singer feeds into this rumor in his new single, “A COLD PLAY,” by saying, “I tried not to listen when they all would say, this was temporary and you’d walk away.”
The esteemed rapper had also released another song called “Hot Girl Problems” just after the breakup rumors had begun. The song included the lyrics, “Okay, how you gon’ settle down with a million options? / You try to play it off sweet, sweet, but underneath, you’re toxic,” a subtle jab at Tate. Meanwhile, the rapper tried to play it off with an X post claiming that he and his ex were on good terms. In summary, this was LAROI taking a hit at Tate without wanting the heat.
Finally, Tate clapped back with her own diss track, “TIT FOR TAT’ on September 26, 2025, creating a breakout all over social media platforms such as TikTok and X. Consider the lyrics “Last night, she answered my call, it sealed the deal.” This led to fans conspiring and wondering if LAROI had gotten with another girl after the breakup. After Tate fired back with her own song, LAROI’s storyline about her went silent fast, almost like he realized that she wasn’t an easy target.
Fans were led to believe that Tate was not the one at fault, but rather LAROI himself, being the one to spark the fire yet incapable of putting it out. In fact, LAROI stopped releasing singles (or rather disses) aimed at Tate once she made a diss of her own.
Although these moments can seem iconic on paper, it’s also important to note that taking personal drama to the public can lead to intense repercussions for both parties.
