At the Glendale Unified School District School Board meeting held Sept. 16, senior Mary Agajanian was officially seated as the 2014-2015 Student Board Member. As the Student Board Member, Agajanian is responsible for attending both the Student Advisory Council (SAC) meetings and the GUSD Board of Education meetings, and reporting on the issues that affect students to the Board of Education.

As she was officially seated at the GUSD Board meeting, Agajanian delivered a speech to the Board of Education and to her fellow SAC members. “I don’t want to be just the reporter,” Agajanian said. “In my speech, I mentioned some of my ideas to the Board.” Agajanian plans on taking a more active role as the Student Board Member, including visiting other schools and creating activities that the different schools can participate in.

“I want to make more inter-school or intra-district activities,” Agajanian said. “Because at Clark, we don’t have football games or homecoming, and I feel like we’re excluded from those activities.” By creating these activities, Agajanian hopes to establish a connection among the various GUSD schools with activities that their students can attend and participate in.

“I want to go around to the other high schools and see how it is,” Agajanian said. “I have to keep track of what’s going on.” Agajanian said she is excited to be representing the students of GUSD, and is looking forward to a successful school year.
