The release date for Into the Woods, a Disney fairy tale mix up, is Christmas day, which for this film promises to be a good matchup. Christmas season is the time of storytelling, and this movie gives a new perspective of various fairy tales such as Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood.

The trailer itself is intriguing and shows a sign that the movie itself will be outstanding. The trailer first opens up with the main characters saying, “I wish,” and then Meryl Streep makes her appearance. After that scene, a catchy song comes in and various scenes from the movie play. Something I noticed is that all the fairytales are connected to the characters whom Emily Blunt and James Corden play. The trailer proves that this will be like no other fairytale movie when Cinderella runs away from a chance of living a life with a charming prince and from being a princess.

The trailer’s ending is what captures my attention, where Streep sings a song and from the last scene you see changes to her appearance where she looks younger compared to her initial appearance as a wrinkly, old witch. What is her true appearance and what is her actual motive of getting all those fairytale characters to interact?

Most of the characters are played by well known actors and actresses: Emily Blunt, James Corden, Johnny Depp,  Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Meryl Streep.

Meryl Streep is well known for many movies, including The Devil Wears Prada and Mamma MIa, and she also has a record 18 nominations for Academy Awards. Anna Kendrick has recently gain popularity after her astounding performance in Pitch Perfect, but for those who have been fans before that, they know that she was the talkative, upbeat friend of Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga.

Johnny Depp is as well known as Meryl Streep. Nearly everyone knows him as the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow. Chris Pine is a familiar face to those who have watched a lot of Disney movies, and to them he is the dashing Nicholas Devereaux in Princess Diaries 2. Recently he’s been in a movies including Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Star Trek: Into the Darkness.

Emily Blunt has worked with Streep previous to this movie and that was in The Devil Wears Prada, where she was the shy assistant who goes through the tough world of the fashion industry. Blunt has also been in the recently released movie Edge of Tomorrow and her co-actor being Tom Cruise. James Corden who is known more as a comedian but is also known for playing the character, Steve, in Begin Again and Paul in One Chance.

These six actors and actresses portray infamous fairytale characters in a musical movie that will remind people of the magic that fairytales hold. Streep is the mysterious witch who seems to age younger as the story progress. Blunt and Corden are a couple who wish to reverse a curse. Depp shows a side of the Big Bad Wolf that no one has seen. Pine is the charming, yet not-so- sincere, prince to Anna Kendrick’s character as Cinderella.
