L.A. Kings reclaim their chances in the NHL Finals

In an intensely critical match, the Los Angeles Kings won a comeback game against the Anaheim Ducks on May 14 at the Honda Center. This game was to be the deciding factor for the Kings’ qualification in avoiding elimination against the Ducks in order to proceed into the Western Conference Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks. With this decisive victory, one last game will be played in the series between the Ducks and the Kings on May 16 to decide which team will proceed.

Junior Aram Atamian, a longtime fan of the Los Angeles Kings, says that he thinks the win will go to the Kings if they play as well as they did on Wednesday. “I’m sure that, if the Kings are as determined as they were in the previous game, their victory is basically assured,” Atamian said.

The series between the Ducks and the Kings began with two consecutive game wins for the Kings, both of which took place at the home court of the Anaheim Ducks. New forward Marian Gaborik scored the winning goal in sudden death overtime, resulting in a 2–0 lead. The next two games at the Los Angeles stadium were victories for the Anaheim Ducks, tying the series at 2–2. Goalie Jonathan Quick was pulled from the game 20 minutes in favor of rookie Martin Jones after unsuccessfully blocking two goals in the first period.

The next game at the Anaheim stadium was a victory for the Ducks, giving them the upper hand with a 3–2 series. Wednesday’s game was decisive on whether the Ducks would close up the series and proceed to the Western Conference Finals or if the Kings would tie the series for a final match, and with Wednesday’s victory, the Kings won themselves one last chance at proceeding to the Western Conference Finals.

The Kings began Wednesday’s game very aggressively and quickly gained a 2–0 lead. The Ducks tried for a comeback and managed to score once to lower the King’s upper hand, but ultimately could not topple the King’s powerful lead.
