(October 7, 2009) — When this summer started, every movie reviewer predicted that it would turn out great, and they were not disappointed. It contained the standard action movies featuring explosions, cutting edge special effects and hot actors of both genders. Also released throughout the summer were enough outrageous comedies and movies aimed more towards women to keep June-August fresh. For those of you who have been living in a cave for the last few months, this article will review the standouts of the summer that will be worth getting on DVD. The Hangover : The premise is that two friends (and a future brother-in-law) hold a bachelor party for their friend Doug in Las Vegas, two nights before the wedding. But, when they wake up the next morning, none of them remembers what has happened or where Doug is. A hilarious movie leaving no part of Las Vegas untouched, it is just plausible enough to make you think it could actually happen. A combination of a police car, a tiger, Mike Tyson, an angry gambler and a baby in a closet makes one amazing story. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen : The much anticipated sequel to the 2007 movie features a group of ancient transformers called the Fallen who are trying to convert the sun into Energon, the energy source that powers the transformers. It is up to the good Autobots to stop them before it is to late. It is a solid action film offering amazing special effects and it’s worth it to watch at least once. The Proposal : This movie, about a book editor who marries her assistant to avoid getting deported to Canada, is made for women, and in the middle of the summer action season geared towards men, this is not a bad thing. If you are a woman, you have a better chance of enjoying it for its story and jokes, rather than a guy who may get only a few chuckles for being sappy. Public Enemies : Taking place in the 1930s and based on a true story, the movie follows the infamous bank robber John Dillinger as he evades the FBI. Declared public enemy #1 by FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover, he became popular with the public for the fact that he never stole from the hard-working people who happened to be in the banks, just the banks themselves, making him look like a modern-day Robin Hood. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince : Shooting into theaters after being pushed back from its original release date in November, the movie had fans lined up all night for the first showing. Taking off where the last one left off, the sixth movie has Harry Potter trying to extract a memory from the returning Potions Master, Horace Slughorn. The memory holds the secret to the power of the Dark Lord Voldemort and how to stop him. It is easy to understand even for someone who hasn’t seen any of the other movies but stays true to the book at the same time.
