Ever since One Direction member Harry Styles started his solo career, fans have been in a praising state of frenzy. With his phenomenal music video for his first single “Sign of the Times,” his entire fan base was left in shock and admiration as they marveled at the special effects used, not to mention the fact that Styles was actually flying 1,500 feet off the ground.

Knowing how well his first music video did, his fans were extremely excited when Styles released the music video for his second single, “Kiwi,” on Nov. 9. When talking about the song itself, Styles admitted that the lyrics don’t hold any real meaning, as it was written just for fun at first. However, when a majority of his fans claimed “Kiwi” as their favorite from the entire album, the song soon became a single.

The video itself is quite bizarre as its storyline is completely unexpected and random and doesn’t  have one actual Kiwi in it. Not relating to its title in the slightest, the song is initially about a man in a wild relationship, but he can’t seem to get enough of his lover and continues to stay with her. It is considered to be one of his more explicit songs, but oddly enough the music video revolves around children and puppies and has absolutely no relationship to the song’s lyrics.

In the video opening the screen reads “NO CHILDREN OR ANIMALS WERE HARMED DURING THE MAKING OF THIS FILM,” which completely throws the audience off.

The first scene is of a girl, who later is found to be dressed identically to Harry Styles in a blue Gucci suit, marching down what appears to be a school hallway holding a box of blue, frosted vanilla cupcakes. She enters a large room with a mountain of cakes in the middle with a myriad of children on opposite sides of it.

As the camera pans to both groups, it is quite evident that the result will be a cupcake war. Within seconds, the pastries are being thrown everywhere creating a delicious mess. As if the video isn’t already strange enough, as the fight grows more intense the door is finally opened once more to reveal Styles holding a golden retriever puppy in his arms. Noticing the war zone before him, he shouts and charges into the room with an army of puppies behind him, who run in and devour the food on the floor. The video ends with everyone staring at the camera with serious faces all covered in frosted pastries.

Many fans were confused by the video, but loved it anyway, claiming that since the song itself doesn’t hold real meaning and is really just to listen to for a fun time, it makes sense for the video to be the same. It is also no lie that Styles has many admirers for not only his talent, but also his good looks.

Therefore, it’s no consolation that his fans were gawking at his ability to be dressed in a striking suit and shouting at the top of his lungs like a deranged animal while still managing to look much more than just decent.

The colors used in the video are also very eye catching — from the clothes that the children are wearing to the variety of colored deserts. In a way the video brings a bit of a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory vibe with its wild children and sweets. Watching the video makes one want to jump out of their seats and dance and scream to the rocky and heavy beat of the uplifting song.

As proven through his amazing first album and two music videos, Styles has set the bar high and has made his fans even more excited for his upcoming music videos and new projects.
