(June 10, 2001) — Wouldn’t it be nice if high school were more than just homework and tests? On May 31 and June 2, Clark seniors presented the senior projects they had been developing since the beginning of the year. Each student chose an activity they were interested in, wrote a research paper on it, completed fifteen hours of field experience and presented it to a panel of judges consisting of teachers and interested members of the community. Established four years ago when Clark was being built, the senior project was the first of its kind in the district and Clark was the first school to test it out. “[The senior project] was life changing for some students,” commented Principal Doug Dall. In doing this project, seniors got an idea of what they wanted to pursue or avoid as a future career, he added. Bianca Fajardo had a chance to pursue an interest in newscasting by working with KTLA news anchorwoman Lynette Romero. “This gave me the idea of a real life anchorwoman,” reflected Fajardo. “I learned from others’ mistakes and met certain struggles that anchorwomen go through.” Adam Wing did his project on electronic music and its history. “Initially I was nervous, but everyone’s nervous when presenting to people you don’t know. But it becomes easier,” Wing commented. The judges were impressed with the students’ choice of topics and presentations. Volunteer judge Jeannie Davis said she was amazed at how well they presented. “[The students] did a wonderful job,” she said. So was all the hard work worth it? “Definitely!” said Fajardo with a smile.
