Ben Affleck sports a mechanical mask as Batman.

In 2013, director Zack Snyder gave audiences his origin story of Superman with Man of Steel, a film that was generally well-received by audiences and critics alike, as well quite profitable. Then that same year at Comic Con, Snyder announced that the sequel would feature none other than Bruce Wayne/Batman, and that the two would be pitted against each other in epic battle. Warner Bros. has shown great faith in Snyder, entrusting him with not only these two Superman films, but also the eventual Justice League movies, and with all of the pressure on his shoulders, Snyder has managed to deliver a successful teaser for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Scheduled for release on March 25, 2016, this lead-up to the Justice League stars Henry Cavill as Superman, who portrayed the character tremendously in Man of Steel, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, his first time on screen as the caped crusader. As for the plot, it’s still relatively unknown. All that has been currently unveiled is that it revolves around the first meeting between these two powerful figures and the conflicts that arise between them which culminates in a ruthless brawl.

As a teaser, it does its job. It doesn’t give away much of anything, other than a few brief scenes and voiceovers that provide context as to how the world has become following the events of Man of Steel. The public seems to be split as to whether Superman should be revered as a god or a monster, but Bruce Wayne clearly has some antagonistic feelings towards him, as he takes it upon himself to take him out. Though none of this is confirmed, one can assume this is what the plot revolves around.

There are plenty of awesome visuals throughout this teaser, one of which being a statue of Superman with the words “False God” painted on it, which again, can lead one to speculate the basis of the plot. There’s also a shot of Superman being knelt before by a group of soldiers with his insignia on the sides of their uniforms, which can mean that there are certainly people who are loyal to Superman, as opposed to seeing him as a “False God.” But perhaps the coolest part is the final glimpse, in which Batman is staring up into the sky as Superman hovers above him as he asks him “Tell me, do you bleed?” As Superman smashes to the ground preparing to engage in combat, Batman reassures him, “You will.” Just awesome.

Though the film is quite a long way away and there’s no real guarantee that it’ll be amazing, this teaser does a great job of igniting buzz. Hopefully it’s not all just empty coolness and the final product is as astounding as can be.
