We leave the era of vampires and werewolfs only to be enthralled by dark dystopian societies. The CW brings viewers a sci-fi show about a group of rebellious teenagers attempting to survive on the remains of Earth in an innovative world. The 100 manages to pack in enough drama and action to have you binge watching the show in a matter of a day.

The 100 is set about 97 years in the future after a nuclear apocalypse that causes human survivors to move into a spaceship in space called the Ark to escape the radiation poisoning on Earth. When officials on the Ark realize they are running out of air, they send 100 teenage criminals to Earth to see if it’s livable for the rest of the people on the Ark.

The cast of The 100 includes Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, Thomas McDonell, Devon Bostick, Lindsey Morgan, Ricky Whittle, Christopher Larkin, Paige Turco, Isaiah Washington, and Henry Ian Cusick.

What was believed to be a suicide mission turned around when leaders Clarke and Bellamy emerged from the 100 to keep the rest of the teenagers alive on this new land only to realize they’re not alone. The 100 teen criminals not only manage to survive in this foreign planet with no resources, but they also keep alive through the deception and secrets they find overtime. What more could you expect from a show about survival, betrayal and trust?

Jason Rothenberg, creator and lead writer of The 100, acknowledged in an interview what a big fan of sci-fi he has is and how amazing it is that he has the opportunity to make a show he feels so strongly towards. In less than a year,The 100 has grown a huge fanbase and incredible reception. (Not to mention the cast and crew’s involvement with the fans over social media and meet-ups is gratifying.)

The story is absolutely fascinating and alluring. The writer’s hard work is clearly shown through all the noteworthy quotes luring through your mind as you impatiently wait for the next episode. The story itself has a lot of detail and depth, from the laws and government of the Ark to the way of life of the grounders (inhabitants of Earth). Favored by anyone looking for a good show involving war, strong feminist characters and merciless plot twists, The 100 will satisfy your cravings.

Eliza Taylor plays born-to-be leader Clarke Griffin, who is a strong-headed seventeen-year-old girl with limited medical training that helps the 100. Bob Morley portrays Bellamy Blake, a young man in his early twenties, who sneaked onto the ship that took the 100 down to Earth to protect his younger sister, and ends up being co-leader of the teens.

One of the highlights of the show is Clarke and Bellamy’s chemistry. Even though the two are not romantically involved in the show, their relationship is built off respect for one another as co-leaders. Fans have created the ship “Bellarke” in hopes of them ending up together on the show. When being asked about the positive reaction towards Bellarke and what the future holds for them, Morley said, “All power to the fans.” We earnestly wait until the premiere on Jan. 21 to see the progress Bellarke has made since the last episode.

The 100 tells a fascinating story that is well produced by a devoted cast and crew who have notably given their all to better the show. CW’s The 100 premiered in the spring of 2014 and is already noted to be one of the best shows on TV right now according to TV.com. Spoiler TV included two of the show’s scenes in the “top 25 TV moments of 2014.”
