(February 28, 2013) — In the past few weeks, the junior committee has been advertising Friday’s dance through the use of clothespins. “We have clothespins with the name of the dance and date on one side, and on the other side of the pins it says ‘tag you’re it!'” said junior Sheina Sakhrani, who pitched the advertisement idea to the junior class committee. According to Sakhrani, the point of the pins is to clip them on people so that the more people are clipped the more people will know about the dance. “It’s better than writing it on a poster because it’s interactive,” Sakhrani said. “It’s more memorable because it’s like a game.” In the past two years, the spring formal had been themed Monte Carlo. However this year, the junior class has decided to make a change. This year’s theme is black light. Junior class treasurer Natalie Armenian said that the theme was changed from Monte Carlo to try something different and potentially hike up sales. “We wanted a new angle so it seemed that because we were teens, students could relate more to a blacklight theme,” Armenian said. The spring formal is also called the junior prom because the junior class sponsors and hosts the dance. Although it is called the junior prom, the dance is not limited to juniors. Junior class president Hayk Israelyan said that he hopes that all students, not just juniors, will come to the dance. “It’s a good way for freshmen and sophomores to experience what the upper classes are like in a social environment, where the usual academic attitude is absent,” he said. Junior Alyssa Fortaleza said that she’s really looking forward to the dance mostly because of how many of her friends are going. “My friends and I are really excited because we love music and dancing,” Fortaleza said. “It’ll be like going to a party.” Armenian agrees with Fortaleza and believes that “in order to have a good time somewhere, you have to be with your friends. It’s not about the place, it’s about who you’re with,” Armenian said. “In order to have a good time at a party, it’s best to be with your friends.” For sophomore Angello Pinedo, Friday night means a night full of studying. “I don’t have time, I have to study for math and quizzes,” Pinedo said. “I also have SAT prep classes on the weekends.” Despite the challenges of the school workload, Israelyan said that students should try to take a break from the tensions of school and come to this annual tradition. “It’s a fun night for all of Clark to join together and have a good time,” said Israelyan. “People should wear white and neon,” said junior class committee member Armine Gulyan. Students who attend the dance are encouraged to wear light and bright colors so that their clothes fluoresce under the blacklight. The dance will be held tomorrow in the auditeria from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. “There’s going to be glowsticks, strobe lights, delicious food, and a bartender,” Gulyan said. Today is the last day to buy tickets. They can be purchased at the bottom of the amphitheatre during lunch for $35.
