(December 14, 2012)– Christmas music is playing on the radio and holiday specials are on television. It’s the season of giving and a time to spend with friends and family. Everyone has something to love about the holidays. Freshman Nicole Svare said she likes the holidays because of “the Christmas lights that glitter and sending cards and happy things and trees smell good and egg nog and more lights and snow that never happens.” Well, “the snow that never happens” won’t apply to sophomore Olivia Brandt this winter break. Before the new year, she will go to Yosemite National Park. She said she is excited because this is her first time going and she doesn’t get to see snow very often. “I want to learn how or snowboard or ski,” she said. She will be spending the holidays with the parents and younger brother. They will be decorating a Christmas tree and putting up lights. After Christmas, Brandt and her family will visit her grandparents. At her grandparent’s house, they will have dinner and more presents. “It’s like a second Christmas,” Brandt said. “Not is it [just] a break from school, but it’s like a happiness,” sophomore Sabrina Galanis said. She is getting ready for Christmas by buying a fresh tree to decorate. Galanis said that along with regular ornaments, she and her family like to add a special ornament that is unique to each family member.
