(December 14, 2012) — In locations all over the world, fans of hip hop, punk rock, alternative rock and extreme sports are gathering in parking lots and large fields to witness hundreds of bands perform in the 2013 Vans Warped Tour. The Warped Tour was created in 1994, inspired by skateboarding shows like Vision Skate Escape and Holiday Havoc. Students from Clark Magnet have planning to get Warped Tour tickets for almost a month. Junior Vartan Matossian is going to attend Warped Tour for the first time in the 2013 tour. “I’m going with a bunch of my friends,” Matossian said. “I’m expecting to see a lot of mosh pits, tents, signing bands and a bunch of crazy people. Also hoping to see bands like Of Mice & Men, Pierce the Veil and Bring Me the Horizon.” The name of Warped Tour is from the Warp Magazine, which featured surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding and punk music. They soon became sponsored by the skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans Shoes, which has sponsored the tour every year. Along with music, the tour contains several attractions like a half-pipe for skaters and bikers. After performing, the bands retreat to their tents to sell merchandise, independent record labels, magazines and sponsors marketed at the teenage demographic. The 2013 Warped Tour is coming to Pomona, California at the Pomona Fairplex on Jun 20-21, 2013. Those interested in going usually go in groups of friends bringing backpacks, a bottle of water, camera, sharpie for autographs, fully charged cell phones and hats. After the show is over, spectators can go to signings, acoustic performances and more. “I hope it’s as great as I anticipate it to be,“ Matossian said. “When I just hear ‘Warped Tour’ I want to just get my mind warped and have a great time.”
