(December 14, 2012) — Standing under the blazing hot sun at one in the afternoon on a Sunday was not very pleasant. I endured the heat and the frustration for Phillip Phillips, winner of American Idol’s eleventh season, performing at the Americana. Being a fan since his American Idol days, I was excited to finally see him perform live. Needless to say, two in the afternoon is not a very appropriate time for a performance. Knowing that people would take up the front space quickly, I went to the Americana two hours before. To my disappointment, it was a waste of my time. If I had arrived at one, I still would have been standing in the same spot. The show finally started around two. To my surprise, he did not delay his performance by arriving late. Singing songs from his new album, The World from the Side of the Moon, he delivered a performance that was worth all the wait. Some of the songs that he performed included his most famous single, “Home,” a song that has been featured in the US Women’s Gymnastics during the 2012 Olympics. It has also been used in the trailer for the movie Trouble With the Curve. According to American Idol, the single has been certified gold and has reached number one on iTunes singles chart. Other songs he performed included “Gone, Gone, Gone,” “Man on the Moon,” “Hold On” and many more. By the end of the performance, everyone rushed to the lines for the meet and greet. The policy for meeting with Phillip Phillips included purchasing his new CD. His regular CD sold for $15 and the deluxe, which only included three more songs, was sold for $20. Having purchased his CD, I was excited to meet him. I was disappointed to find out the meet and greet with each person took ten seconds overall. He signed the CD, said two words, and that was it .His managers and the security were rushing everyone. While I understand they had to keep the line moving, I’m sure everyone would have appreciated it if they weren’t so rushed. Watching Phillip Phillips perform at the Americana made for an enjoyable time. While he may not be a global superstar yet, he is on his way to becoming one.
