(December 14, 2012) — I first heard about Ingrid Michaelson’s live, online concert on Twitter. At first I was skeptical but wanted to give it a try because she rarely comes to California. A half hour before the concert started, I went on to the page to see the live comments. Everyone was talking about Michaelson and what song she should sing, when suddenly, she started chatting with us telling us about the show. Michaelson sang “Be Ok,” “How We Love,” “You and I,” “Winter Song” and many others. Between each song, she answered a few questions that were streaming live. It was hard for her to read due to the fact that they were moving so fast, but she managed to answer some. Since she couldn’t hear anything we were doing, everyone messaged something along the lines of “clap” to show that we were “applauding” her. When her 30 minutes were up, she told up to type in “clap” if we wanted an encore. Obviously the chat bar instantly became filled with “claps.” She told us she had something special prepared for the encore. Her last song that she sang was “Winter Song,” a song that she usually sings with Sara Bareilles. This was her first time singing it alone and she was a bit nervous. Halfway through the song, she forgot a line and immediately stopped. She laughed it off and asked the viewers what the next line was. Everyone online sent what they thought was right. Michaelson furrowed her brow until she finally saw the right line and continued playing. Sadly, after she finished playing her last song, the time ran out halfway through her sentence. Throughout the entire 45 minutes, people were tipping her left and right. The tips were shown on the chat bar, and even though they started out really small, by the end of the night, people were tipping $10. Someone even tipped $100. With the money people used to buy the tickets to watch and the tipped money, Michaelson raised over $10,000 for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Even though it was an online concert and it was Michaelson’s first time doing anything on Stageit.com, I felt as if I was at a live concert with a fantastic seat.
