The patio is surrounded with glass, so the diners are secluded, but still have the ability to enjoy the view. The décor indoors doesn’t have a Mexican theme; it feels more modern with pink walls and large diagonal posts. During dinner, the salsa verde stood out the most; it was sour & spicy, which went well with the meal. The fajitas were well seasoned and cooked medium well, without my asking. It was definitely a positive experience. The mariachi playing during dinner is what stood out the most. The floors are stone and wood, the chairs are wooden, and the décor consists of clay pots and colorful plates. The food was okay, it wasn’t amazing, but it was flavorful. One of the appetizers, flautas, was very spicy and lemony, but it didn’t work well with the other items on the dish. The drinks are expensive too; the nonalcoholic drinks have the same charge as the alcoholic ones. Another negative is the drive, which is longer because the restaurant is located in Universal City Walk. Pepe’s 2272 Honolulu Ave Montrose, CA 91021 Neighborhood: Glendale (818) 248- 6622 One of the few things I liked about Pepe’s was the chips; they were crisp and went well with the spicy salsa. The arrangement of the seating and decoration allows sound to carry throughout the restaurant. There are little roofs across all of the booths that cause sound to travel. During the entire meal, I could hear others speaking very clearly. The food wasn’t very good; the meat was bland and a few of the side dishes were undercooked. Unfortunately, because the restaurant is in Montrose, there also isn’t much to do at night.
