(June 8, 2012) — One of the many perks of being a 2012 Panther at Clark is the opportunity to take a minimum of five classes. With only five classes, seniors are given the decision to either arrive early to school or to be dismissed early from school. Out of 253 seniors, 206 have taken advantage of the schedule system and took fewer than seven classes during the most recent semester. Melanie Moradi reduced her schedule to five classes and, as a result, had more time to plan her out her day. “I have time to play basketball with my friends after school,” Moradi said. “I’m really enjoying my extra time.” Besides using her time to have fun and play sports, Moradi also spends her time wisely. “Since I only have five classes, I took a few courses at GCC so I can get an early start,” she said. Moradi isn’t the only person who is taking advantage of the schedule system at Clark. Tigran Ghukasyan has spent his extra time relaxing and rejuvenating so that he can have energy to complete his homework. Ghukasyan leaves school at 1:30 and although he has six classes, most of them are AP courses. “Having this extra time to relax feels really good,” Ghukasyan said. “However, the fact that my classes are hard cancels that out.” Although his classes have been harder than usual, Ghukasyan said he still appreciates the extra time he has at home. Because of Clark’s flexible scheduling, Vernes Okanovich has already completed eleven units at Glendale Community College. “Instead of taking seven classes, I took five at Clark,” he said. “This gave me a lot of time to complete courses at GCC.” Aside from getting a jump start for college, he has also had enough time to do what he loves, “Since I only have five classes, I have more time for programming.” Okanovich advises the upcoming seniors to prioritize their schedules, “It’s better to take five classes here and use that time to get a head start in college.”
