( May 25, 2012 ) — “Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival” also known as Coachella is a festival that is held annually for two weekends in April, each three days long, at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California. Senior Aram Boyadjian’s favorite thing about this event is the “whole musical and friendly environment.” Junior Marina Malkhasova, who went to Coachella last month with her sister and brother-in-law for the first time this year, says her favorite part about the event is the “amazing performances and the new people you meet.” This is one of the most hyped-up events every year, especially to music lovers. However, there are some challenges for teens who wish to attend this event because of the high ticket prices and being able to stay there for all three days. The prices range from $285 to $335. Aside from the ticket expenses, attendees have to stay near the festival for an entire weekend. “My parents didn’t let me go because I’m not allowed to stay there for three days with my friends without an adult,” junior Arpa Almasi said. The event consists of a few stages set up and each stage has live music playing continuously. The music includes alternative rock, hip-hop and electronic music . Some performers from this year were Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Paul McCartney. With so many performers, Swedish House Mafia and Kaskade were Malkhasovas’ favorite. Boyadjian’s favorite performers were Radiohead and the Black Keys. According to Festivals , an informative site on festival-related events in the United States, an estimated 100,000 people attend the festival each year, since there is music that satisfies every type of music lover. A new feature this year was the holographic Tupac Shakur. This hologram performed with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Even though there are many artists performing, other celebrities also attend this event to see all the great performances just like all the other fans also there. After getting the feel of going once, Malkhasova says she “will be going again next year for sure.”
