(December 20, 2011) — Adele’s newly released concert album leaves a feeling of love, loss, anger and revenge. Her live performance leads the audience through a journey and the various steps of her breakups. The combination of Adele’s performance and voice make this DVD and CD worth watching and purchasing. The album and DVD features Adele performing at the Royal Albert Hall in England. The raw vocals mixed with the rock and string ensemble make the listeners feel as if they are at the live performance. Adele’s voice at live performances is even better than her recorded voice. The tour CD consists of all the songs from her latest album, 21, and a few more popular songs from her previous album, 19. After listening and watching the concert, I realized why Adele has a rapidly growing audience. Her soulful style of singing and onstage tears allow viewers to see the true pain that came with writing this album. Of all the countless concert DVDs I have seen, Adele’s is probably the best. However, the footage reveals too much regret and sorrow because most of the songs become too sappy and start to sound the same. The audience only seems to react when Adele sings well-known songs. Adele’s fans don’t seem as dedicated as, say, Beyonce’s or Katy Perry’s. I also found it disappointing when Adele sings “Rumour Has It,” during the chorus, her voice repeatedly cracks when she has to sing the higher notes. In addition, she has her fans sing the chorus during two of her most popular songs, “Rolling In The Deep” and “Someone Like You.” I was looking forward to her belting out the powerful notes during the chorus. Regardless, Adele’s performance is consistent, and at certain moments, I found it difficult not to raise the volume so loud that my sister would begin to yell at me. One song in the album particularly stood out to me. When “Turning Tables” began playing, tears welled up in my eyes because I could feel her pain while she sang. I would definitely recommend this DVD to anyone who has an urge to see Adele in concert because Adele will not be touring the U.S. soon. To pass up the opportunity to see an artist like Adele with this amazing voice would be a mistake.
