(May 24, 2011) — Sophomores David Markarian and Leon Mardirossian last month won the Los Angeles Dodgers Think Blue essay contest. Of all the contestants from their grade level, only three students were selected as winners. The two submitted their essays about sports and health as part of a project in the Davis’ Humanities class. Markarian, who wrote a couple of drafts for his essay, was surprised. “I walked into class, and Mr. Davis told me I had won,” he said. For their efforts, Markarian, Mardirossian and their teacher, Mr. Davis, attended a luncheon on April 25 at the Dodgers Stadium Club. As the first place winner in his grade level, Markarian received a $100 dollar check and four tickets to a Dodger game on May 3 against the Chicago Cubs. He was also acknowledged on the field for his accomplishment.
