(March 10, 2011) — Clark’s Varsity Scholastic Bowl team’s five months of trivia and fact practice spanning five subjects — math, social science, science, fine arts and English — will be put to the test in less than one week. On Monday, the five members of the Varsity team each wrote an essay at the Glendale Board of Education. Graded on a ten point scale, the scores from these essays will determine the team’s starting points for the buzzer competition against Glendale, Hoover, and Crescenta Valley High schools. The team hopes to receive at least the same amount of points that they racked up last year prior to the buzzer competition — 37 points of the possible 50. The smell of competition is in the air with Clark’s marginal defeat in last year’s bowl, but with more practice geared towards the arts, team Coach Susan Newcomer and the Varsity bowlers say they feel confident in taking on their not-so-trivial challenge this Monday at 7 p.m.
