(Dec. 22, 2010) — “It’s been a fun year with no clearly dominating team,” said mathematics teacher and NFL fan Fred Blattner. There are many teams competing in order to make it to the playoffs. In the end, all of them are hoping to win Superbowl XLV, the spectacle of the National Football League. Currently, the New England Patriots of the AFC East, and the Atlanta Falcons of the NFC South are tied with the best record at 11–2. Social Science teacher Nick Doom, an avid watcher of college and professional football, predicts the Patriots as the Super Bowl winner. “The Patriots have the best chance of winning the Superbowl because of their experience, and their amazing quarterback, Tom Brady and coach, Bill Belichick,” he said. The Patriots have had three Superbowl victories in the last decade, winning in 2002, 2004 and 2005. When asked about the NFC, Doom said, “The NFC is wide open for anyone, because of reasons such as the Falcons being inexperienced and the NFC West having a terrible set of teams.” In agreement with Doom, Blattner said, “If I had to pick a team right now that is capable of winning the Superbowl, it would be the Patriots. The Chicago Bears are the only challenge from the weak NFC North.” He is convinced that none of the NFC teams have a chance of winning the Superbowl. Junior Sevada Barseghian disagrees with both teachers. “The Giants from the NFC East have a better chance than both those teams because of their spectacular defense. I think they will be the underdog and repeat what they accomplished in 2008,” he said.
