(Oct. 28, 2010) — After a stressful day of school, you walk from your bus to your house only to be yelled at by your parents. You stand in the middle of the living room, helpless, tired and tensed. You think to yourself, “I want to go home.” You start to drift off into space where you imagine paradise, a place where coconut juice is served to you in the shells and by waiters, and where your only worry is to not develop frown lines. Unfortunately, your dreams of paradise are ruined with your mom’s still-angry voice, telling you to go to your room and start your homework. You walk into your room and think, “Well, it’s not paradise, but it’s pretty close to it.” According to bedroomsideas.com, most people think of their bedrooms as only a place where they sleep, but truly it is so much more than that. A bedroom is a great place where you can show creativity and organize a certain way, personally to suit you. “My room is a place where I can relax and just be alone,” says sophomore Alex Deravanessian. “My walls are mocha colored. It’s not brown but more like coffee colored. The color of the walls really blends in with the rest of my room, and gives it a relaxing, mellow feel to it.” Deravanessian said that even though his personality is very energetic, he has a laid back side also. “I like the color because it’s not outrageous, it’s rather calm.” According to bedroomsideas.com, all of us have a part of our room that stayed the same from our younger years. Even if we got a complete room makeover, a part of our younger days is still in our rooms. Some have Winnie the Pooh posters still on their walls, a stuffed animal or two on the bed, or even a certain color that they had their walls painted when they were kids. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, yet everyone has a part of their room they want to get rid of, add to, or change. Sophomore Meleene Hairapetian says that her room does not match her personality. “My walls are painted light green, which in my opinion would be great for a girly girl,” Hairapetian said. Three years ago, when she painted her room light green, she felt that it was a tranquil color, which was perfect for a student. “I can’t wait to repaint my walls, but until then I am hiding the color with posters,” she said. Sophomore Nick Baygan says that the coloring and overall design of his bedroom fully matches his personality. “I have simple white walls, with a couple of posters on the walls,” Baygan said. “The poster that makes me smile every time I look at it is of a tiger with its tongue sticking out. This poster creates a humorous look to my room, which matches my fun loving personality.” According to bedroomsideas.com, whether you want your room to show your frisky side, or your soft, placid side, it is important to style your bedroom to match your personality. Most teenagers spend many hours studying in their bedrooms, so a cozy room would do. The appliances in a room are equally vital. Junior Andre Malikian said that his room really accommodates his interests. “I have a TV, PS3 and my computer,” Malikian said. Malikian is also currently waiting for the last part of his room, which, in his words, “will make it perfect.” In a few weeks Malikian will add a mini refrigerator to his room.
