(April 1, 2010) — Students will express their individuality in the annual talent show held tomorrow. Anticipation and excitement have filled the atmosphere as students auditioned and rehearsed their acts. Senior Sevada Minassians has been anticipating the show since the beginning of the senior year. “This is my last year at Clark and my friends and I want to give our classmates a taste of our music,” Minassians said. According to junior Lyova Zalyan, the talent show coordinator, this year 22 groups auditioned, but only the 16 most outstanding groups were admitted. The show is put under a time constraint, in which all the groups have to perform within 50 minutes. Minassians said that he and senior Danny Manasserian have been working together for two years and were confident that they would be selected to perform in the talent show. The act consists of a vocal written by Minassians and senior Patrick Tanahan, which is also accompanied by background acoustics composed by Minassians. “Life experiences and pure emotions inspire me to write my music,” Minassians said. “Rap is the easiest way for me to control my emotions and my anger. I turn my negative energy into positive energy.” Also set to perform tomorrow are juniors Kelly Mejia and Jonathan Quiros. They will be performing the song “Time is running out,” by Muse. “I have been rehearsing an hour a week since January,” Mejia said. Although at first Mejia was reluctant to perform in front of a large crowd, she said that it would be a great opportunity to show off her musical skills. Likewise, others enjoy the chance to not only showcase their talent but show everyone a different side to them. “The talent show is a unique way to express yourself outside of class,” Manasserian said.
