(April 1, 2010) — Even with a sun-filled sky mixed with a few drops of rain, on March 7, about 20 of fellow Troop 101 Boy Scout members and friends helped senior Jonathan Stutson achieve his Eagle Scout rank at College View School. College View serves about 70 to 96 children with moderate to severe mental and physical disabilities from the Glendale, Burbank and La Caňada area. Stutson’s father called the school looking to see if they wanted volunteers to help fix up the area. According to Stutson, every Boy Scout must complete a big project similar to his in order to become an Eagle Scout (the highest scout rank) by the age of 18. Stutson’s father encouraged him to be a Boy Scout in 2006 when he was not too thrilled about it. “Children made fun of me when I went into Boy Scouts so I wanted to get out of it,” he said. “But my dad kept telling me to stick with it, and I’m actually glad he did.” Stutson and the other volunteers finished painting ten classroom doors and a small racetrack for the children. He thought the experience he faced with the project was worthwhile because he finally accomplished the Eagle Scout rank just in time and was proud to acknowledge his membership.
