(April 22, 1999) — Students of Clark Magnet High School have rarely had any opportunities, or any reason, to show school pride in relation with their attendance of this school. Necessary elements that instill pride within students – school sports, clubs and activities – were not present at the beginning of the school year. These are absolutely vital for students to feel pride in their school. There are still no sports teams but an abundance of clubs and activities have been established. Students find themselves with more chances to get involved and feel as if they are a part of Clark. During the week before Spring Break, the ASB organized a string of activities varying from a pie-eating contest to a break dancing competition. Spirit Week, as it was called, proved successful not only with the student body but also among school staff members. Students responded well to the opportunities presented to them, including such privileges as free-dress days and a talent show. Clark students have set a higher standard in terms of their ability to behave in comparison to those students attending other high schools. The school staff has openly praised the student body’s behavior during that week and many have showed support for other events taking place in the future modeled on those in Spirit Week. Spirit Week not only allowed students to have fun, but it also induced the initial steps which will eventually lead to a prominent display of “Panther Pride.”
