(June 16, 2009) — After running laps, doing shuffles, and suicides, it’s time to do some freshening up. Changing in the PE locker room, you notice that cheesy odor mixed with a pig-sweat-esque filling the area. Now, looking back on “freshmeat” days, it seems like one of the things you’ll miss after graduating, but how much Axe is too much? Sure it’s meant to keep the stench away just like a regular cologne would, but some events show how the product can cause allergic reactions and woozy headaches. Axe never made senior Raphael Poon have any side effects, but he remembered a point when the product disturbed him. “It wasn’t annoying unless they sprayed it everywhere,” Poon said. As Poon recalled, they would play around with some friends and spray it all over the place, leading to far more spray than needed. “That stuff smells ridiculous,” he said. The odor didn’t bother senior Nazareth Ashkharian because he used it frequently after working out. He still prefers using it and remembers his own fun times with the product. “One time I yelled I’m an armo and sprayed the whole bottle on me,” Ashkharian said. “Freshmen, you can’t really expect anything from them.” Despite the fun that sometimes comes from one bottle of Axe, Ashkharian finds the product still has flaws. “It’s annoying because sweat and Axe don’t make a good combo.” A ban on the use of axe has been considered by other schools in the country, but the idea hasn’t come to this school. When asked if Axe should be banned in school, senior Eric Magsayo said, “Should perfume be banned in school? It’ll be like banning shampoo or lotion.”
