(October 31, 2000) — On Oct. 21, many of Clark’s sophomores and junior took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. A little known fact is that the PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Last school year, over a million juniors competed for the National Merit Scholarship. Of these students, three of Clark’s juniors scored in the 95th percentile or above. Senior Jimmy Kan was one of the few individuals in the nation to score in the 99th percentile. This means that Kan received a score higher than 99% of the individuals who took the test. Many students think that the PSAT is simply a practice for the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), and they overlook the fact that it is also a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship. However, in order to be able to qualify, you must check a box to show that you wish to participate in the program.
