(Novembe 29, 2000) — Red Alert is back and this time it’s more addictive than ever. “Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2,” by Westwood Studios, unravels with the former Soviet Union launching a full-scale invasion on the U.S. The full-motion-video cut scenes are Westwood quality, with actors such as Ray Wise, Barry Corbin and Kari Wuhrer, to name a few. Look for a few surprises during the cut scenes. There are two sides the player can choose from: Allies or Soviet. On the Allies side you have the powerful weather control device, while on the Soviet’s side you have the radioactive nuclear bomb! It’s up to you to decide your side of the war. On each side of the game, either Allies or Soviet, there are roughly a dozen missions. The missions are scattered in different locations around the world such as Washington, D.C., Colorado, Texas and Moscow. Missions do not get repetitive. As soon as you finish the missions, you can jump over to play the skirmish mode, which places you against the game’s artificial intelligence. Skirmish mode games are similar to multiplayer games with the computer. The AI is very advanced with three set difficulty levels – easy, medium and brutal. Many people prefer skirmish game play to the missions. Overall, the game has changed tremendously. A new rebuilt game engine, off the Tiberium Sun engine, has created stunning 2D graphics and animation in the battlefield. The cinematic and storyline are excellent. This game will surely keep you coming back for more, considering its wide array of multiplayer options and endless real-time opponents over the Internet.
