(November 29, 2000) — Amidst an office supply store and Barnes & Noble in the Glendale Fashion Center sits Hogi Yogi, a restaurant that serves everything from sandwiches to frozen delights – all with great customer service. Hogi Yogi shares an outdoor eating area along with another restaurant, giving its customers an option of eating outdoors or inside. Inside, customers may feel that the refrigerator noise is too loud and disturbing while dining, making outdoor dining more pleasant. With popular music playing in the background, Hogi Yogi makes a great after school sandwich stop. Welcomed with an uplifting “Hi! Welcome to Hogi Yogi!” greeting and the smell of freshly baked bread, we ordered some sandwiches, sandwiches being the main menu item. Starting from a choice of hot and cold sandwiches, many different options for the sandwich are offered: white or wheat, Provolone, American or Swiss cheese. Hogi Yogi offers a wide variety of sandwiches from cold to hot sandwiches. As you review the menu, it is difficult to settle your mind on a single sandwich. After choosing your sandwich, you are ready to customize your sandwich just the way you like it. Start off with deciding on freshly baked white or wheat bread, then choose from three types of tasty cheese: Provolone, American or Swiss. Now, you are ready to decorate your sandwich with a choice of nine fresh vegetables. An order of “everything” includes lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, sprouts, olives and cucumbers. Now you want to top it off with a choice of seven different dressings, including Hogi Sauce (a sauce similar to ranch dressing). We recommend the cold seafood and crab sandwich, a tasty sandwich including crabmeat made from fresh juicy fish and flavored with mayonnaise and seafood seasoning. The sandwich is priced at $3.99 for regular size (six inches) and $5.99 for large size (12 inches). For our sandwich we ordered wheat bread, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mushrooms, bell peppers and cucumbers. For the dressing we chose oil, vinegar, mayonnaise, Hogi Sauce, salt and pepper. If you are looking for an ordinary sandwich, we recommend trying the cold turkey sandwich. This is a delicious non-processed white turkey breast that is 99% fat free. For the vegetarians, Hogi Yogi also offers a vegetarian sandwich priced at $2.49 for regular size and $4.49 for large size. If you are craving a hot meal we recommend the hot steak and cheese sandwich, which includes thin slices of tender marinated sirloin beef. This sandwich is priced at $3.79 for the regular size and $5.79 for large size. Same as every sandwich at Hogi Yogi, the type of vegetables and flavoring are all up to the customer. Hogi Yogi also offers two types of salads: dinner salad with your choice of vegetables and an option of three different dressings – Thousand Island, Italian, and Ranch, among the choices – priced at $2.89. If you are looking for a salad to fill your stomach, try the chef’s salad priced at $3.99. If you are not in the mood for a sandwich, drop by for a tasty frozen yogurt or ice cream. Hogi Yogi’s frozen desserts differ greatly from any other you have tried. You can make your own ice cream flavor by choosing either vanilla or chocolate base and then adding from the 50 abundant mix-ins available to create your favorite flavor. Additions include fresh fruits, candy bars, candies, nuts and cookies. A small bowl of ice cream is priced at $2.69, medium bowl $3.19, and large bowl $3.69 or you can waffle cone it for 49 cents. First mix-in is free and then add 49 cents for each extra. Don’t want ice cream or frozen yogurt? Try a juicy 24-ounce smoothie from Hogi Yogi’s delicious variety of flavors all priced at $3.39. The price may seem a little steep, but after one taste of the luscious sweet flavor, you will be convinced it was worth it. The most popular Strawberry Kist gives the tang of fresh fruity strawberries with ice. If you want something a little different, try Jungle Mist or Fruit Safari, which include peach, berries, banana and a tang of orange. Or you can try the Raspberry Sherbet Twist for $1.99.
