(February 25, 2010) — After ASB adviser Susan Giatti left Clark for personal reasons at the end of last semester, business teacher Elaine Snodgress took the position, hoping to benefit the students with her leadership skills. “I used to own my own business, so that really put me in a position of leadership,” Snodgress said. Snodgress, who has several ideas for ASB, says that she is more in a position of learning than implementing as of now. “I don’t want to interject the ideas until I know really how everything functions because my ideas may just be not appropriate or compatible with how ASB runs,” Snodgress said. “It’s really kind of getting a lay of the land.” Snodgress says that despite the quick transition, ASB is handling the change smoothly. “I don’t see any issues other than typical ones that might arise for even normal things,” Snodgress said. Senior Class President Samantha Cismas says that the transition motivated ASB to work harder to bring things back to normal. “Everyone seems to be more helpful than they actually were when Giatti was here,” Cismas said. However, she believes the change is more difficult for seniors, to whom Giatti was a class adviser as well. The new senior class adviser is Spanish teacher Julie Ann Melville. Cismas says that the Giatti’s decision overwhelmed ASB, forcing them to be more detailed for Snodgress’ sake. Cismas says that ASB had to pay more money for the roses because of the change. “I was a little bit mad—you know, I’m not going to lie—I was mad at [Giatti] for just doing that,” Cismas said. Cismas says that if Giatti wanted to leave, it’s for the best. “I think even though it was probably not the best time of the year, I think it was just her time to go,” Cismas said. Snodgress and Cismas see a geographical advantage with the change. Snodgress’ room has more room and storage space. Although Snodgress says there is some organizational difficulty, she hopes that once things run smoothly, the change will be an improvement to ASB.
