(May 1, 2001) — With friends or just with a date? Limousine or car? On the night of May 19, all of these questions will be answered by a simple glance at the entrance of Bank of America and the people who attend senior prom. Elegantly dressed people will filter out of black and white limousines, rented cars and owned cars, making their way to senior prom. Now “Stairway to Heaven” has ended with one last mesmerizing song. The prom queen has been announced, people have danced until their feet ached. Now what? Perhaps a stroll on the shore of a beach with a date would be nice. Senior Edgar Abramyan said that he, his date, his friends and their dates will “probably go to the beach and an expensive restaurant.” Or perhaps plans are to go to an after-party and boogy on those already aching feet. Or maybe even return to home sweet home and just hit the sack. Think home is very unlikely? Read on. “I’m either going to come home because of my parents or go out for an hour or so,” said senior Sun Jung. Similarly, senior Viktoriya Stepanyan said she’s definitely going to go home. “It’ll be too late to go out!” she exclaimed. Senior class president William Bairamian said, “There might be an after-prom party organized with other students, not associated with the school. People might go elsewhere…” How are these people getting to where they want to go? Some seniors will rent a limousine, some will drive their own vehicles and for others, well, transportation remains undecided. Abramyan said that some of his friends wanted to drive cars and some wanted to ride in a limousine. So to compromise, “we rented a limousine and will drive our own cars afterwards.” According to Abramyan, costs range from a Lincoln Towncar at $120 an hour to a Hummer at around $600 an hour. “We’re going to get a black Navigator!” senior Mark Byun said excitedly. He said it costs approximately $800 for the night, but forking out the money will be split between eight couples or more. While Byun rejoices, senior Gordon MacDonald said, “I’m not sure yet [about transportation], but I’m hoping to rent a limousine.”
