(Decemeber 10, 2009) — “Wait, isn’t he dead? I thought his last movie was The Dark Knight, ” freshman Hovig Dermenjian said. Heath Ledger’s presence is still prominent despite his death. There’s just one more movie where he will last be seen in. Confused? You’re not the only one. Many of us may remember his last performance, which was in The Dark Knight. As Joker the villain, he won over 20 awards after passing away, including best actor and supporting actor, according to the Associated Press. “It’s really sad how Heath Ledger had to leave us so early. He had real potential,” junior Nancy Oganezov said. “I’ll make sure to see his new movie.” Heath Ledger’s last film is called The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus . While in the middle of filming, director Terry Gilliam had to make the decision of whether to continue the movie. The movie was only a third of a way done, when Ledger unexpectedly passed away. The cast and crew eventually decided to recast Ledger’s part through three different actors: Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell. Each actor portrayed different transformations or illusions of Ledger’s character, Tony. Through a “dream world,” Tony and the other characters in the movie escape to reveal the whole plot. Some students have already seen the trailer for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus . “The trailer was awesome! It was full of animation, humor and adventure!” said sophomore Ellen Azizian. “The way they made the cast wear makeup was kind of weird, but it looks like a movie worth watching.” In one part of the trailer, viewers see Ledger say, “Nothing’s permanent, not even death.” Even though movie critics say Gilliam is trying to keep Ledger’s legacy alive, he will always be remembered as the bad boy rebel from 10 Things I Hate About You or Ennis del Mar in Brokeback Mountain . Although he is deceased, he has left many missing and in awe of his performances. “His acting has significantly left a mark on our movie industry today. It was a shame that a man with that much talent had to leave the world so early,” sophomore Elijah Lopez said. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus comes out Dec. 25, in New York City and Los Angeles. It releases nationwide Jan 8.
