(June 14, 2002) — The sound of laughter and music fills the air as the sun sets gracefully in the picturesque background during the Class of 2002 Barbeque and Awards Banquet. Approximately 180 teachers, administrators, seniors and their families met at the top of the amphitheatre last Thursday for dinner and student recognition. The barbeque started at 5:30 p.m. and seniors relaxed with a variety of food and drinks while the district jazz band played music. Alex Moon commented,“This barbeque is one of the last times the class of 2002 can enjoy each other’s company before graduation.” Later on in the evening, awards were given out to seniors for academic, athletic and artistic achievement. The students stepped up to the front of the stage to receive plaques, certificates and medals. Some were recognized for scholarships received from outside organizations. In addition to the seniors, parents and family members were also invited to support the students. “I liked how the parents and students got along,” commented Emin Menachekanian, “and the setting was really cozy.” The night ended with a special recognition to Principal Doug Dall for his work in establishing the school. English teacher and senior class co-adviser Stephanie Sajjadieh presented a class ring to him on behalf of the seniors for being an example of how “dreams can come true.” With great emotion, Dall accepted the ring and said, “It’s been a great run.”
