(November 5, 2009) — “Oh my gosh, Justin Bieber? I LOVE JUSTIN BIEBER!” said sophomore Melissa Gonzalez about the new teen sensation that is spoken of by teenage girls in the hallways of high schools throughout the United States. He’s cute, funny and he can sing! But the best part is… he’s fifteen years old, perfect for all teenage girls to dream about. Justin Drew Bieber was born on March 14, 1994, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Like most artists, he wasn’t born into fame. He first started out by entering into a local singing competition, receiving second place. Bieber taught himself to play the guitar, piano, drums and trumpet. “That takes some talent, but that doesn’t mean he’s über good at it,” sophomore Erica Barin said. He and his mother started posting videos of his performances on YouTube. The videos were mainly of him singing cover versions of songs from artists such as Usher, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. Discovered by Rapid Discover Media (A Toronto-based Company) and MySpace users, his career took flight. Later, Bieber went to audition at Island Records and had a chance to perform in front of Usher. In 2008, Bieber signed with Island Records under Usher’s label. “It’s pretty cool how he signed with Usher. It means he has talent. He might get somewhere in the future,” freshman Janella Polack said. In 2008, Bieber signed with Island Records under Usher’s label. Now that fifteen-year-old Bieber is at the top of his game with new hit songs like “One Less Lonely Girl” and “One Time,” new girls are waiting in line just dying to meet him. He will also be the opening act on Taylor Swift’s Fearless Tour on Nov. 23 and 24 in Manchester and London. “He’s really cute. Not hot…but cute. He’s just so adorable!” sophomore Julie Pastor said. “His voice is high pitched, very unique. But he seems like a pretty cool guy. Oh! And he’s my age!” As most girls would agree, Justin Bieber is quite the heartthrob. However, some say his looks aren’t enough. “He’s pretty cute, but his voice isn’t mature yet,” freshman Brenda Macias said. Even though many teens know Justin Bieber, some still aren’t quiet sure who he is, such as senior Biju Babu, who said, “Who the [heck] is Shiny Beaver?” Nevertheless, Bieber’s success continues to grow, as fans count down the days left until the release of his new album, My World , on Nov. 17 . With both Justin Bieber’s and Usher’s vocals, the CD will sure be a number one seller. “I can’t wait until his new CD comes out,” Gonzalez said. “My iTouch will be on repeat for awhile for sure.”
