(October 7, 2009) — Tina Uguryan, a graduate of the class of 2009, tragically died in an automobile accident on Aug 13, 2009 at 9:05 p.m. According to cbs2.com, eighteen-year-old Uguryan and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Robert Vardanyan, were driving on the Colorado Street off-ramp coming from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway when Vardanyan cut off another motorist and lost control of his speeding Nissan, crashing into a tree. The car was split in half, and both were killed on the spot, as stated by the California Highway Patrol. Uguryan’s death left many in mourning. “She was somebody who was really capable and had a lot of potential and a promising future,” Fred Blattner, her AP Statistics teacher, said. According to Blattner, although he didn’t know Uguryan for very long, it was clear that she had many friends. “She was polite, and she was popular and she was very pretty, with a potentially unlimited future, and it was all wiped out in a split second,” Blattner said. Uguryan’s both inner and outer beauty had a direct impact on everyone she met. “Her main central focus was broader than Clark,” head counselor Karen Carlson said. “She could sell an Eskimo snow because she had this inner charm, a beauty from within.” According to Carlson, her social gift, charm and charisma attracted everyone to her. Her acceptance of others contributed to the strength of the social magnetic field that surrounded her. “If girls could learn form her death and be able to stand up for themselves and say, ‘I’m not comfortable when you drive 100 miles an hour,’ I would want that to be her legacy,” Carlson said. From Armenian Planet to Glendale Armenian Voice, people have blogged about their feelings on Uguryan’s tragic death. “We lost a part of ourselves and gained a part of her. She will never be gone to any of us. Really you guys, drive safe. I would never wish this kind of pain on anyone,” best friend 2009 Clark graduate Ani Kazaryan posted on Armenian Planet. The funeral service for Uguryan was held on Aug 21, 2009, at Forest Lawn-Glendale. “The memorial was packed by people our age,” senior Mane Hakobyan said. Hakobyan didn’t know Uguryan directly but went to the service to support her friend. Uguryan is survived by her mother and father.
