(June 16, 2009) — Glamorous gowns. Shimmering jewelry. Striking heels. Sounds like a girl getting ready for a special night. Excitement and happiness filled senior Yna Mokhtarians as she spent hours doing her hair, nails and make up for the prom on May 1. She had been preparing for this day for many weeks and anticipated a great night. After the school bell rang, Mokhtarians rushed to Cut Masters hair salon. Blow driers and straightening irons were actively working to create the perfect hairstyle. To put on the finishing touch, Mokhtarians, a prom princess, wore a sparkling tiara. “Being a prom princess was very special,” Mokhtarians said, “because when I was a kid I wished to be a princess.” Shopping for a dress did not turn out exactly the way Mokhtarians expected. “I never saw myself in a green dress at prom because I always pick pink over anything,” Mokhtarians said. “When I tried on the green dress it fit just right.” Mokhtarians said that all the colors coordinated from her dress to her make up. While some girls focused on their make-up, others paid closer attention to their dress. “I always wanted to custom make my prom dress so it would be different,” senior Ani Khachatoorians said. “But when I was walking in the mall I saw an Indian style dress which I really loved.” When Khachatoorians took the dress to be altered she realized that the sensor was still on it. “I was annoyed that I had to go back to the store and then return to the altering place.” Khachatoorians said. “But otherwise, my dress would not be ready in time.” During prom, Khachatoorians enjoyed wearing the dress because it was comfortable but, most importantly, it was unique. “I could dance easily without stepping on my dress,” Khachatoorians said. Preparing for prom was hectic and exciting. But everything came together once the night began. An ice sculpture engraved with the year 2009, flower centerpieces and flowing curtains decorated the ballroom. The students’ favorite tunes were played all night long. “Getting ready for prom and seeing all my friends dressed up made it a night I will always remember,” Ani Chobanyan said.
