(June 12, 2009) — If you ever happen to pass by a tennis court in Glendale High, don’t be surprised if a ball comes whizzing past you. The skilled wielder of the racket that sent the projectile your may be none other than senior Nikolas Daka. From a young age, Daka was intrigued by tennis, often watching games on television. Finally, in 6 th grade, he decided to become a tennis player and asked his dad for his very first racket. Daka earned his tennis skills entirely by himself, never having received formal lessons. He has been playing tennis for ten years now and has been improving consistently over time. “My strength is my forehand,” he said. Daka’s talent has definitely paid off in the recent years, earning him top spots in the GHS tennis team. He played varsity for four years and has held the position of captain for two. According to Daka, he realized his potential for greatness when he “started beating all the other people.” He has won many games over the years and recently won the league tournament. He cites tennis legend Roger Federer as his favorite tennis player and will undoubtedly do his best to follow in Federer’s footsteps.
