(June 3, 2003) — Graduates across the country look forward to the tradition of senior year. Whether it is prom, grad night, or walking across the stage clad in a floor length robe to receive their diploma, seniors would like their final year to be memorable. Over the course of the five years Clark has been open, our school has continued to improve and expand itself. Clark prom has gone from the gym, to the Bank of America building, to the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles and finally the beautiful Castle Green in Pasadena. The trend should not stop here. ASB should fight on behalf of the seniors for a grad night, an event which other schools—Crescenta Valley, Glendale, Hoover and countless others—enjoy. We deserve a grad night. We didn’t deserve to have our senior class trip be to Catalina as it was poorly planned. If Catalina was our senior class trip why were only about 70 tickets available to a class of 236? In addition to the lack of spaces available, the student body had no say in where they wanted the trip to be held. Without prior consultation of the class of 2003, ASB arranged the Catalina trip. The effort is appreciated, albeit a handful of students did enjoy the excursion, but next year’s class should learn from our mistakes. If there is to be a senior trip next year, make it a grad night, hold it in June at the climax of the year and survey the entire class for input. ASB, wondering why they were criticized last fall, seemed offended and oblivious to the complaints of their classmates. Complaints and criticism had legitimate reason. But mistakes are there to serve us in making better decisions for tomorrow. To the class of 2004, coordinate a spectacular, popular grad night, something that can compare to the wonderful proms this school hosts; something that can compliment the end of a high school career.
