(June 17, 2003) — It’s seventh period and students are counting down the minutes, anxiously waiting to get through the last hour of school and go home. Somewhere, not far away in room number 1331 the Publications class is just getting started. “Okay, anybody have any announcements?” The class begins with a ritual of announcements. After announcements everybody rushes off to complete their tasks. The most challenging part of publications for most people was meeting the deadlines. The seniors were the ones that had the biggest feeling of accomplishment. Some of the seniors have been in Publications for several years so at the end of their last year they had many things to look back on. Joining publications at a young age allowed them to explore their own writing techniques and grow to become more experienced writers. It was also a discovery of self as they pushed their boundaries to see what they were capable of doing. Senior Alice Lee said “After being in this class for three years I’ve learned so many things that I couldn’t have learned through any other class. I’ve learned how to manage my time as well as how to work with complete strangers. It’s these real life lessons that will help me in my future as I go off to college and when I head into my career.” For seniors, leaving Publications will be especially hard. Students such as Alice Lee, Nancy Hong, and Sung Chong, who have been in Publications for several years, have grown very accustomed to the family-like atmosphere in the class. “Sure it had its ups and downs, but what family doesn’t?” said Jason Kang.
