(October 27, 2003) — The state released API results Friday. Principal Doug Dall’s proposition of free dress days may take place soon, depending on the administration’s conclusion of our growth. According to the California Department of Education, the latest results show that for the first time ever two Glendale high schools, Crescenta Valley and Clark, have API scores above 800, with Clark at 809 and Crescenta Valley at 826 points. Clark’s API results show a 13 point increase from last year’s score of 796. Since Clark has exceeded its required 1-point target growth, it is eligible to receive the Governor’s Performance Awards (GPA). Clark has also achieved other criterion of the GPA which are, according to the California Department of Education, to meet at least a five percent growth from the previous year’s score, to have equal ratios of improvement between financially disadvantaged and privileged groups, to improve at least five points and to have at least 90% of all students grades nine through twelve participate in the STAR examinations. Other high schools in the district also eligible for the GPA are Glendale and Crescenta Valley, but Hoover does not qualify because the scores of one of its subgroups decreased six points. Overall, the four high schools in the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD)— Hoover, Glendale, CV and Clark—increased their API’s to growth target. Dall also announced over the loudspeaker Friday that in order for students to have his proposed free dress days, they will have to maintain Clark’s clean campus and behave courteously towards one another.
