(January 21, 2004) — Math teacher Charles DeVore and substitute teacher Lois Sheridan will temporarily assist counselor Linda Doll. DeVore has filled in as 11th grade counselor part-time and Sheridan is scheduled to begin interning. After 10th and 11th grade counselor Rebecca Angulo left Clark for another position in the district in November, Doll and Assistant Principal Joan Shoff have been counseling all classes. According to Doll, Principal Doug Dall requested that DeVore counsel because he has a master’s degree and a credential in pupil personnel services. DeVore will counsel during periods three, four and seven for 11th graders only. He was also a counselor at Clark during the 1999-2000 school year for one period. As he is also the Robotics team advisor, DeVore said he “definitely look[s] forward” to allotting his time between three roles. Sheridan said she is “excited” to be interning in the counseling office. She will be completing her master’s degree in education and her pupil personnel services credential this spring. She holds a bachelors degree in sociology from UCLA. Sheridan will assist Doll with counseling duties while she continues to substitute for history teacher Cynthia Nash. According to Shoff, Clark will seek a full-time counselor during the summer when the selection pool for counselors is larger. Although Shoff has been assisting Doll in counseling, Doll said the state has strict regulations on counseling policies and that while Shoff is allowed to assist students with grades and sign forms, administrators usually don’t do psychological counseling. Doll also said the district doesn’t permit a counselor to have over 600 students–she has been counseling over 1,000.
