(January 21, 2004) — Vroom, vroom! In the morning, one can see many cars standing in lines in Clark parking lot. Mostly seniors, they start out their morning fresh with driving. (a quote about advantages driving to school, etc.) There are many kinds of cars filling the spaces; BMW, Toyota, Honda, etc. Some are new, but more of them are used. (a quote about why there is more used cars) Most students know that one big advantage of buying used cars is the price. Also, many said that some parts of the cars are already worn out, which make the cars to break down easier. Also, buying a used car mean inheriting the previous owner’s problems and not knowing how the car was treated before. Not only that, one might not have a sense of ownership compared to one who bought a new car. However, some students seem to have used cars other than the fact that the used cars are cheaper. Senior Norayr Odjakhian, who has a 1999 Toyota 4Runner, likes his car, because he bought the car after it was fixed up by the previous owner. (more about this car) Also, senior Punardeep Sikka said, “minor scratches does not greatly affect used cars’ prices compared to what one scratch can do to new cars’ prices. Senior Neil Klungmontri also liked the used cars, because it is easier to get fixed than the new ones. Some students who use used cars inherit the cars from their parents. For example, senior Jeff De Jong got a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta from his father. He liked the used cars for the fact that he can fettle around with them. New cars, in the other hands, have more advantages. For example, a sense of ownership makes one to treat the car better. Senior Haik Yanashyan, who drives a new 2002 Honda Accord, said that it is more liable to drive a new car, because one knows for sure that there is less problems compared to the used ones. Regardless of many advantages, new cars are in disadvantage that not only it will cost more to buy it, it will cost more with the maintenances of the cars. Phillip Reed, the editor of edmunds.com, said that new or used, it is best to find a car that is right for you.
