(May 8, 2009) — A little rain and a chilly temperature did not stop the talent show from taking place on April 10. Students and staff arrived at the amphitheater to watch 14 acts with talents ranging from beat boxing, garage-type playing bands, martial arts, musical instruments and hip-hop dancing to a little scenario of asking a certain someone out to the senior prom. Willing students auditioned for a few ASB members and ASB adviser Susan Giatti two weeks before April in the ASB classroom. However, not everyone made it past the auditions. Junior Gina De Luca decided to sing an urban style song with an upbeat melody originally sung by artist Natasha Bedingfield but didn’t make it. According to De Luca, she had chosen the song at the last minute, which gave her less time to practice. The audition hasn’t discouraged De Luca, who had made it into the show last year. She plans to audition during her senior year at Clark. “I love auditioning,” she said. “It’s my drive.” One of the performances senior Alvin Valencia found worth watching was sophomore Molly Thepviwat’s reaction of the song “Reflection” from Mulan . Thepviwat has been part of the entertaining industry since the age of six, so she found it easy to perform martial arts with real weapons before a live audience. Thepviwat preferred this year’s sound system to last year’s. “Now we have much better equipment,” she said. On the other hand, senior Alvin Valencia thought the audio equipment could have improved. “It felt like watching a movie with bad audio equipment,” he said. However, Valencia said that the show has made improvements from last year. “Honestly, it was better.”
