(November 23, 2004) — The PSP a.k.a. PlayStation Portable has crisp graphics and sound, a 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio (480×272; 4.3 inches diagonal), a built-in memory stick slot, and Wi-Fi that allows for wireless gaming. USB 2.0 is also featured, as well as 32MB of memory. Sony has chosen the Universal Media Disc (UMD) as the medium for the movies, games and music the PSP will play. The PSP’s controller looks and feels similar to the PS2’s, maintaining the same button layout so getting accustomed to new controls won’t be a problem. Optional accessories such as a camera, keyboard and a GPS add-on will be available. The release date is to be announced on these add-ons, as well as the PSP itself. Due out in Japan before this year’s end, this item will certainly be next year’s “in” device. Though, some speculate the cost to be anywhere from three to four hundred dollars, this handheld will most likely be marketed to the 18-34-year-old demographic.
