(January 25, 2005) — The LA Auto Show showcases all the new automotive trends and concepts. From what was at the car show, automakers are still in a race to make bigger badder trucks/SUV, and to make cars to monster horsepower. Before, trucks and SUVs like the Chevy Suburban and Ford Explorer were just to carry around kids, their soccer team and several tubs of mayonnaise from Costco. Now, trucks like the immense Dodge Ram 1500 or the more elegand but just as massive new Land Rover LR3, can carry all these things, but whith style. The boxy trucks of the past now have bigger everything: bigger rims, bigger engines and a bigger shot of pure testosterone. The trend is so great that even Japanese automakers have jumped on the bandwagon recently. The once small and efficient Nissan and Toyota trucks have grown up to full size behemoths, like the 2005 Nissan Titan or 2005 Toyota Tundra, both with optional V8 engines. Even Saab is taking a shot at the SUV market with its 9-7X. Talk about huge, nearly all new SUVs and trucks can accommodate even the biggest DUB or Diablo rims. If a hulking mass of steel isn’t your thing, well then rest assured car makers are still pulling out all the stops when it comes to horsepower. The new 2005 Ford Mustang boasts a 4.6 liter V8 with 300 horsepower and plenty of torque to spare to meld the tires off. As if last year’s model wasn’t fast enough, Infiniti now has a 298 horsepower 6 speed manual version of its popular G35 and G35 Coupe, or how about the fresh new AMG CLS55 from Mercedes Benz with a 476 horsepower V8. Four cylinders just aren’t cutting it anymore. Look like standard 20-inch rims and V8 engines and up will soon take over the automotive market.
