(April 8, 2005) — Ter-ri, Ter-ri, Schia-VO! Those two words have been on the lips of every Sachi Koto in the American media for almost a month now. For those of you who are slow on the uptake (although I’d laugh at you if you hadn’t heard about this), Terri Schiavo is, or WAS a 41-year-old woman who had been in a vegetative state for almost 15 years, living off liquefied nutrients graciously supplied to her by the lovely staff of some Florida hospice. Her husband had been trying to pull the plug on her forever, but was being held back by Terri’s-the media is on a first-name basis with her- separation anxiety-ridden parents. Eventually a judge ordered the tubes be plucked out, and within a matter of days, Terri was a goner. Boo-hoo, the country is a shambles over the death of a woman who hadn’t uttered a single word for the last 3/8 of her life; meanwhile we’ve got thousands of young men dying over in Iraq. Remember that project? How about the one before it? Something along the lines of Afghanistan and how we planned on rebuilding it…well, whatever! We don’t need to waste valuable airtime on such rubbish. The specific case of one Terri Schiavo takes priority over the millions of dollars and lives being put at stake every day over in the Middle East. This, my friends, is the country that we live in: a place where media attention is the driving force behind everything. Nobody cares if you’re dying, if you’re wounded, if you’re wasting away for a lost cause. However, if you’ve been the living dead for enough time, PARTY AT THE WHITE HOUSE. I’m pretty sure Terri Schiavo wasn’t the first of her kind, yet she garnered so much unnecessary attention that ended up achieving absolutely nothing except for a couple more zeros at the end of Sachi Koto’s paycheck. Despite the fact that the whole world is laughing at America for being such a despicable head case when it comes to prioritizing issues—thus giving the American public more and more reason to abandon the U.S. and take sides with the enemy—the government continues to allow for such mockeries to be made of the self proclaimed “leader of democracy, opportunity, dreams, blah, blah, blah…”
