(March 2, 2005) — It seems that a new device is being released every day in the field of digital recording, with top industry leaders such as Sony and Cannon constantly pushing their engineers to develop the latest technology. JVC to date is the frontrunner, being the first to incorporate a hard-drive into their new JVC Everio GZ-MC200. The JVC Everio records DVD quality video in MPEG-2 format with AC-3 audio. It has a maximum bit-rate of 8.88 Mbps. The 4GB CF micro hard-drive is the major achievement on this camera, which can capture 1 hour of DVD quality recording. It also doubles as a digital camera, the files of which can be transferred via memory sticks. The navigation around the menus as well as the interface is very intuitive with the thumb resting right on the record button and the index on the zoom lever. The camera also comes bundled with video software that includes Cyberlink DVD PowerProducer, PowerDirector Express and Player, all of which allows you to produce movies with music, captions and generate files for DVDs or other compressed formats. Now that the technology has been introduced, it’s up to the engineers to improve upon and perfect it. The price tag is still a bit high, ranging from $2000-2200 dollars, and buying an extra battery pack or two may be necessary as the battery life is only one hour.
