(April 8, 2005) — Straight from Q’s laboratory, here is a gadget for the masses that can’t get their hands on that license to kill. The JB1 is the world’s first 007-licensed digital camera to be released; no one would suspect this inconspicuous Zippo look-alike contains a digital camera capable of holding over 300 images at 640×480 resolution. The JB1 uses ST Micro technology to capture highly detailed images with incredibly small file sizes. After all, James Bond doesn’t have the time to insert another memory card during a mission, does he? Sneaking a pic indoors is kept stealthy thanks to LiteSync technology that allows you to take clear images by utilizing the fluorescent lighting in the room, eliminating the need for flash. When you have to be especially sneaky, you can utilize the JB1’s surveillance mode to automatically capture images at regular intervals of up to 90 minutes apart for up to 19 days. In addition, you can also capture video clips with sound for durations of up to 30 seconds at 30 frames per second if incriminating images aren’t enough. It triples as a stand-alone audio recorder that can capture 12 minutes of crystal clear audio for a quick mental note. The JB1 has a USB plug-and-play slot for easy upload of pictures and is PC and Mac compatible, allowing you to transfer the 8 MB of information you can store to any medium all in a 2.25″ x 1.5″ x .5″ package. It will also last you a while, and if it doesn’t, with a manufacturer’s warranty of five years you won’t have to worry about it. You’d think that all of this would cost somewhere around $300, but you can get your hands on one for only $79.99.
