(April 1, 2009) — Flashing blue and purple lights hang from the rim of the building, highlighting the theme of the evening. As one walks in, there are stars illumining the room creating a sense of a moonlight serenade. Finger foods, donated by ASB and PTSA members were served on elevated tables and a white chocolate fountain was placed at the center of the buffet. Last Saturday’s junior prom created both a classy and magical atmosphere that reflected a night full of wonders. Junior class adviser, Susan Giatti, and the junior class committee worked together to ensure a successful event. “People saw sad reactions [as result] of last year’s cancellations and this year they really wanted it to happen,” junior vice president Samantha Cismas said. The turnout for last year’s junior prom was disappointing because it lacked enough student spirit and enthusiasm to see it through. “Everybody waited to the last minute last year to buy tickets and administrators thought that people were not interested,” ASB president Johnny Goukassian said. This year, ASB advertised on posters, flyers and by way of class-to-class visits for selling the $20 tickets and spreading the news about the dance. About 150 tickets were sold and night was an overall success. “People expected it to be boring and that no one would dance but when I walked in everyone was dancing and having a great time, which pumped me up to party,” junior Renita Malekian said. “And the DJ played really good music.” The loud music shook the room and the DJ spun a variety of popular pop, techno and Armenian music. After hours of dancing people took their cups of lemonade outside and found relief in the cool breeze from the heat inside the auditeria. “Since I went with a lot of friends, when we got tired from dancing, we took a bunch of pictures by the lights and decorations,” Malekian said. “The vibe junior prom gave off made everyone get into it and feel the party,” junior Christine Harmandayan said.
